Zambia
In Zambia, more students than ever go to school, but learning outcomes and completion rates remain low.
In 2024, PEAS and Impact Network Zambia came together to support students from the moment they begin primary school through to graduation from secondary school. Our 16 primary and secondary schools are delivering high quality, low-cost education to over 10,000 students. Learnings from those schools informs our work in 190 partner schools, impacting over 90,000 students beyond the PEAS network.
Evidence from our schools in Zambia shows that:
PEAS students get better results than peers in other schools despite having lower prior academic achievement. PEAS schools have strong community engagement especially around girls’ education.
Bringing high-quality primary education to children in some of Zambia’s most remote communities.
PEAS Primary brings high-quality education to more than 13,000 children across over 40 primary schools in remote and underserved communities in Eastern Zambia.
Formerly delivered by Impact Network, the program combines technology-supported learning with practical, classroom-based coaching for teachers and a strong focus on foundational literacy and numeracy. This approach helps schools improve the quality of teaching while keeping costs low and reaching children who face some of the greatest barriers to education, particularly girls.
Evidence shows that students in PEAS Primary schools achieved 55% greater progress in maths and 103% greater progress in literacy than students in comparison schools. By the end of Grade 1, they were an estimated 12 months ahead in numeracy and 22 months ahead in literacy.
PEAS is now building on its experience working with schools and governments across the region to support improvements in school leadership and management in Zambia.
