Strengthening Education Systems
Improving education at scale
We believe all students deserve a quality education, not just those in the schools we directly operate.
That’s why we work with governments to strengthen education systems, so that more schools can deliver safe, high-quality learning for every student.
Why systems matter
Across Africa, access to education has expanded rapidly, but improvements in quality have not kept pace.
More children are in school than ever before, yet many are not learning at the level they should, and too many leave school without the skills they need.
Building individual schools is not enough to solve this challenge.
Improving how education systems function is essential to reaching every child
Our approach
PEAS partners with Ministries of Education to strengthen how schools are led, supported, and managed across entire systems.
Our work is grounded in over 15 years of experience building and running high-quality schools, and focuses on applying what works at scale.
We work alongside governments to co-design and deliver programs that align with national priorities and can be embedded into existing systems.
What this looks like in practice
Our system-strengthening work focuses on the areas that have the greatest impact on learning:
Strengthening school leadership
Supporting school leaders to drive improvement, set priorities, and create accountable, well-managed schools
Improving teaching and learning
Providing practical tools, training, and support to improve classroom practice
Using data to drive decisions
Helping schools and education officials use real-time data to identify challenges and track progress
Supporting safeguarding and inclusion
Ensuring schools are safe, inclusive environments for all students, including girls and the most marginalized
Building local capacity
Working with district officials and school leaders to embed sustainable practices within government systems
These approaches are delivered through structured, ongoing support, including school assessments, training, and coaching.
Working in partnership with government
We work hand-in-hand with governments, not in parallel.
Our programs are co-designed with Ministries of Education and implemented within national systems, ensuring alignment, ownership, and long-term sustainability.
By building strong relationships across ministries, districts, and schools, we support change that can be sustained even as systems evolve.
Why it matters
By strengthening education systems, we extend our impact far beyond the schools we directly operate.
Today, our work reaches hundreds of thousands of students across Uganda, Zambia, and Ghana, with the potential to reach millions more over time.
This is how we move from improving individual schools to transforming education at scale.
