Local Leadership & Community Partnership

Locally led schools, Rooted in the communities we serve

At PEAS, we believe lasting change comes from within communities, not from outside them.

Our programs are designed and delivered by African educators and leaders, ensuring they reflect the realities, needs, and priorities of the communities they serve.

This local leadership is central to our model, shaping how schools operate, how systems are strengthened, and how impact is sustained over time.

Why IT matters

Education systems are most effective when they reflect the realities of the communities they serve.

Too often, solutions are designed externally and fail to account for local context, limiting their long-term impact.

Locally led approaches build trust, strengthen accountability, and ensure that programs are relevant, effective, and sustainable.

Our approach

Locally led schools

Our schools are led by local teams who understand the communities they serve.

School leaders, teachers, and staff are part of the local context, enabling them to respond to students’ needs and build strong relationships with families

Partnership with families and communities

We work closely with parents and community members to support student learning and school improvement.

This includes ongoing engagement, communication, and shared responsibility for student success.

Building local capacity

We invest in developing local leadership at every level, from school leaders to district education officials.

This ensures that improvements are sustained over time and continue beyond direct program support.

Working within national systems

Our partnerships with governments are grounded in local ownership.

By working within public education systems and alongside local actors, we support change that is embedded and scalable.

Why it matters

When schools are locally led and community-supported:

  • Students are more likely to attend and stay in school

  • Families are more engaged in education

  • Schools are more accountable and responsive

  • Improvements are more sustainable over time

This is how we build education systems that work, from the ground up.
