IMPACTING EDUCATION

icon-education v2.png

We transform lives through education.

Access to school is not the same as access to quality education. PEAS USA works to make sure every child gets both.

We support more than 250,000 students each year in Zambia, Uganda, and Ghana to receive a better education. We do this by building and running great schools, and by helping others run great schools. Our network of 8 primary schools and 38 secondary schools supports students from the moment they start school all the way through graduation.

Designed and delivered by Africans, our award-winning programs help students from lower-income households learn faster, gain confidence, and build the skills they need to thrive beyond school.

But we don’t stop there. We partner with governments to bring more than 16 years of experience running high-quality schools to strengthen education systems nationwide. The results speak for themselves. In Zambia, our most recent Grade 7 students achieved a 98 percent pass rate, compared to the district average of 71 percent.

This is what quality education can do.

Education is Life Changing

Today’s young people will shape the future — especially in Africa, home to the world’s fastest-growing youth population.

By 2035, more sub-Saharan Africans will reach working age than in the rest of the world combined. Yet only one in three currently complete secondary school, and even fewer are girls.

Education opens doors to better life chances, higher incomes, and greater community influence. Educated girls are less likely to marry early or face violence and more likely to raise healthy, educated children.

The coming decade will be a pivotal moment for Africa’s youth. This generation will face climate change, conflict, and poverty. Access to quality education is vital to equip them to lead, innovate, and build just, resilient societies.

IMPACTING GIRLS

icon-girls-resize.png

We reach girls and young women to ensure they can continue in school and thrive, encompassing programs on sports, empowerment, and menstrual health hygiene.

IMPACTING SYSYEMS

We work hand in hand with governments to build stronger, more consistent education systems, applying 15 years of proven tools and experience to tackle root causes.

IMPACTING COMMUNITES

icon-health.png

We partner with communities to empower parents and local leaders, ensuring schools are supported, accountable, and deeply rooted in the communities they serve.

IMPACTING CLIMATE

We equip schools and students to address climate challenges through solar power, water conservation, tree planting, and environmental education.

Using Evidence-Based Approaches

We believe in making decisions using high-quality, independent evidence.

Externally validated results.

In 2017, we embarked on a 35-school expansion project with a randomized controlled trial conducted by American Institutes for Research. The midline evaluation, conducted 14 months after children started school for the first time, found statistically significant impacts over the control group on enrollment, literacy scores and numeracy scores.

The evaluation will continue through 2021 to determine what impact our programs have on academic learning.

15% increase in enrollment

103% increase in literacy scores

55% increase in numeracy scores
